Landscaping

Today we installed a mixture of seed that matches your yards conditions. The grass seed that was planted is of the highest quality. The seed is bought from the sod farms and is the same seed that sod is grown out of. The advantage you now have is that the seed is going to adapt to your soil conditions. On some yards you may see dead grass sitting on top do not remove this it helps keep moisture in the ground. Large clumps can be spread out or removed.

Watering instructions

Watering is the key in establishing new seed. New seedlings that have taken up water are very vulnerable to heat and drought stress. Allowing the newly emerged seeds to dry out can cause significant loss of new seedlings. Correct watering is the difference of a beautiful lawn.

Watering should be done consistently for at least three weeks after seeding. Apply enough water to keep the soil moist not to the point where there is standing water or the water is running off the property. After the third week watering should be done as needed but applying enough water not allowing the yard to dry out.

The best time for watering new seed is in the morning before 10 am and again after 7 pm.

Caring for your new grass

Mowing Once the grass grows to about 3 inches tall cut it back to 2 inches

Weeds Some weeds will come up with your new grass but can be pulled out by hand. Herbicides should not be applied until the yard has been cut half a dozen times applying anything before this time may kill the virgin grass.

Fertilizing Young grass needs fertilization this should be done 6 weeks after germination. Tomasello's Landscaping can provide this service for you ask a representative for a quote. Improper fertilizing could kill newly seeded lawn so it is important to have it professionally done.

When will I have a nice lawn?

It usually takes a full year for a lawn to completely fill in. Shady areas will take more time than sunny areas. Don't be disappointed if really shady areas never fill in completely these areas will require annual grass to be planted yearly.
